Kids in Bloom Malvern
As the new government pledges to increase 3-4yo NEF from 15 hours to 30 schools they will struggle to meet demand and need to extend and expand. Kids in Bloom, as well as providing your extended nursery, can carry out all parts of the project. Please see below.
In March 2014 we were approached by Malvern Primary school with whom we have provided an after school club provision for 7 years to look into the possibility of providing wrap around day care for 3-4 years olds who currently use NEF within school.
Malvern primary had located a classroom with in school at 44m2, giving a capacity of 19 ,3-4 year olds. The room needed minor modifications to add suitable toilets and changing facilities. We also needed an outside space with boundary fences plus an entrance point for parents. The cost of 3 toilets alone was in excess of £30k, to factor in the remaining works the total could have been closer the £40k.
We then spoke to school about the possibility of having a full day care children’s day nursery on school grounds with a capacity of 40 children ranging from babies, toddlers and pre school aged children. As well as offering a steady flow of children accessing Malvern primary at school age but also providing parents with a ‘one stop shop’ for all their childcare needs on one campus.
At first we had to identify the land, then put together an access statement to submit a pre planning application with the LPA. We then sourced a provider of a building. An architect designed the building and compiled a traffic management plan, which then led to us submitting plans to the LPA. Once planning approval was given we applied for a 30 year lease on the land, we submitted building and fire detection regulations to building control. This process was passed and we made a start on Foundations and ground works. The delivery of the building came 26th May 2015 and we were operational by mid June 2015. We connected electrical and water services from Malvern primary and had sub metres fitted for billing purposes.
This project proves that as well as having the ability to provide quality childcare for over 10 years in the local area we can now, also deal with the planning, building of and delivering of the whole service.
